This cache is hidden at the gate of a large dike and big spillway. It looks like a huge earthen dam built in the middle of a farm field. When I first saw it I wonder what in the hey it was! [Note: If corn is not blocking your view, the spillway is visible from the bridge 2000 feet SE of the cache.] This structure was built for flood control at the same time that the rest of the dike system was built in Waterloo. The cement pillars are part of a spillway. I am puzzled as to why the spillway is so much lower than the dike itself.
If you drive south then turn left on the first road, about 2/3 of a mile east you will see an abandoned farm house on the north side of the road. The barn next to it has a glacial erratic stone foundation. The house (at least) was built in 1900.
While you are at it, you might like to take a look at the images associated with this log .
Here's a fall picture I took from the cache location on 10/19/13.
Please be sure to put this back where and how you found it. It goes pipe up, NOT pipe down.
