Geocache Description:

Evil genius, cunning mastermind and leader of the Legion of Doom!

Lex Luthor, originally written as "just" an evil scientist, he was later re-imagined as a heartless mastermind. Lex Luthor is arguably Superman's greatest archnemesis.

Note: He was originally created as a red-headed scientist, but through an artist's mistake, he was presented as a balding man. This characteristic became a "classic" trademark of Lex Luthor. A fact that has been used as a starting point for Luthor's hate for Superman. The more commonly known story goes that they were friends, but after a lab accident, Superboy blew chemical fumes at Luthor and caused his hair to fall out, which Luthor accredited to Superboy's jealousy.

In some versions of his origin, Luthor had inherited a fortune through insurance policies after his parents' death. It's rumored he had arranged the "accident" because he hated his "ignorant" parents and needed the money to amass his empire. Luthor is a very intelligent industrialist, who has a great distrust for "the alien" (what he calls Superman). He uses his fortune and technology to find new ways to destroy Superman.

Welcome to the Hall of Fame for Great Americans located on the campus of Bronx Community College! Built late in the 19th century, this is truly an amazing tribute to some of our country's greatest, famous and finest. This was the original "Hall of Fame"! George Washington, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Clara Barton, Eli Whitney, Robert Fulton, Susan B. Anthony, Thomas Alva Edison, and many more are honored here. Although it had fallen into disrepair after New York University left the area, it has received funds to be rebuilt and repaired.

This campus once served as NYU's University Heights campus, to handle overcrowding at the downtown campus. The Hall of Fame was founded while this was still an NYU campus.

Nearby are the University Woods, which are arguably THE least maintained and worst park in New York City. A restoration effort has (VEEEERY slowly) already begun to help this little piece of green.

The cache is not located at the coordinates listed, they take you to the middle of the colonnade. The cache is a short distance away. To find Lex Luthor, you're going to have to use your brains and do some math.

First, find Elias Howe, inventor and sewing machine pioneer (without who no superhero costume would have ever been possible), then turn and look at the Great American that he is facing. And look for the following on that plaque:

A = the number of times the number "3" appears.
B = the number of times the letter "u" appears.
C = the number of times a "." (period) appears.

Add ABC to the last 3 digits of the NORTH coordinates.
Second, find the "Soldiers" floor tile.

D = the number of rifles displayed on that floor tile.

Third, find James Monroe. Look the person across the "Statesmen" plaque directly in front of him.

E = the sixth digit shown.

Lastly, look back to James Monroe.

F = subtract the 3rd digit in the second year from the 3rd digit in the first year

Add DEF to the last 3 digits of the WEST coordinates.

The Final coordinates are a short distance away.

Cache is a camo'ed tupperware container. Please use stealth, and replace/rehide well. And watch your back.

NOTE: There is no fee for admission to the Hall of Fame (unless you want a guided tour), but you'll probably have to show ID to get onto the campus. The Hall of Fame is open to the public from 10am to 5pm everyday. Please DO NOT post any spoiler photos. I want people to visit the Hall of Fame. It's just. that. cool.
