Sports & Nature 2 Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

CTReviewer: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting. I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
CTReviewer

Geocache Description:

Welcome to Southington's Recreation Park where I spent a good portion of my time attending sports events that my sons participated in over the course of 17 years. This is a great park that includes tennis courts, swimming pool (for town residents only), a football field, baseball fields, soccer fields, roller hockey rink, volleyball area with beach sand, bocci court, and picnic areas. Also nestled in the park is South End School, where my kids went to elementary school.
This was our first cache placed so my son and I originally placed a 2-stage multi-cache in December, 2007. Unfortunately, during the fall of 2008 I discovered that due to construction in the area, stage 1 was no longer accessable. So, I have reposted this as Sports & Nature 2, a 1-stage traditional cache, but it is the same as the final stage for the original Sports & Nature. It is an ammo box with lots of goodies to start with -- books, a dino egg with a surprise inside, photo frame, firetruck stressball, clay, bracelet, matchbox car, eraser...etc.
Parking is pretty easy to figure out--turn right at gate to sewer plant then you will be in the parking lot.
Although this is easily walkable, it could tend to be muddy in sections due to rain or snow. It is off the main trail so you will need to do some bushwacking. Snow and rain will dampen the area so wear appropriate footwear. Easily accessable for adults and children with just a few slopes. Final should be safe in the event of spring flooding of the nearby river.
