The area we plan to clean up is a small area of woodland known
as Omer's Gully wood, situated between junctions 11 and 12 of the
M4. These woods have fallen victim to a spate of fly tipping and
general littering, so this is your chance as a geocacher to give
something back to the environment which plays host to our game.
We need YOU!
The clean up will start at 11:00 and we aim to litter pick the
area for about 2 hours. Two skips will be provided to dispose of
the collected rubbish, and gloves and litter pickers will be
available. The type of rubbish in the area varies from tin cans and
plastic bottles to old car tyres, motorbike components and even a
helium balloon gas bottle! We would like as many volunteers as
possible to turn out on the day so we can show the local community
what a positive impact we can make. If you don't fancy lugging old
tyres around then don't be put off, there is still plenty of
smaller litter you can clear.
There are several caches in the area, for those of you who still
want more action after some hard graft, and although I cannot
promise any new ones for the day there will be several geocaching
related prizes to be won as part of the clean up operation.
After the clean up you will have the opportunity to proceed for
some well earned refreshment to the close by Critical Mass Cache Bash 2006 which is an event
set up by the Cache Hoppers to compliment the CITO.
If 2 events still isn't enough for you, then there is a third
gathering taking place on the Sunday morning at a nearby McDonalds.
Point your browser at the aptly titled Northern Invaders Morning-after Meet
Please post a note if you plan to attend, this will be helpful
in determining the number of litter pickers etc which need to be
provided.
We hope to see as many people as possible there, let's
make this a great CITO event!
Important info
There are several small streams in the woods, although the area is
suitable for children I feel that parents who plan on bringing
small children should be aware of this.
On the day please take care when cleaning up not to cause damage to
the wild flowers in the woodland. Let's make sure the only impact
we have on this area is positive.
The co-ordinates are for one of the entry points to the woods, this
is a residential area so you should be able to park close by.
Health and Safety
It is recommended that you wear sensible outdoor clothing for this
event, along with suitable footwear. You should also check that
your tetanus vaccination is up to date. Insurance cover is provided
by BTCV and public liability insurance is held by the local group
who will be assisting with the clean up.
Before
After
