Geocache Description:

Gibraltar van het Noorden Bij zijn bezoek op 15 en 16 oktober 1811 gaf de Franse keizer Napoleon Bonaparte opdracht tot de bouw van Fort Kijkduin : Den Helder moest het “Gibraltar van het Noorden ” worden.

In 1799 namelijk vielen de Russen en de Engelsen met grote legers de Kop van Noord-Holland - te gemakkelijk – vanuit zee binnen.

Die stachs „Gibraltar of the North“ verdankt ihre Entstehung ganz und gar dem besuch Napoleon Bonapartes in Den Helder im jahre 1811. Wahrend seines Aufenthaltes gab der Franzosische Kaiser den Auftrang zum Bau des Fort Kijkduin . Dem ersten Bauwerk einer spateren Festungslinie.
Fort Kijkduin sollte Schutz vor moglichen Fienden bieten.

Gibraltar of the North

The cache “Gibraltar of the North” is inextricably linked to the arrival of Napoleon Bonaparte in Den Helder in the north of the Netherlands. When he visited this town on 15 en 16 oktober 1811 the French Emperor commissioned the construction of Fort Kijkduin . It was the first fortress in a line of fortifications .
You can visit the Europe’s highest cast iron lighthouse “de lange Jaap” on N 52 53.331 E 4 43.582 of the monumental church on N 5 57.191 E 4 43.772.
