Geocache Description:

This #3 in the series of the rebirth of commuter/transit Railroads that complements my Disappearing RR Blues Caches. This series highlights the return of the popularity of trains that move people.

Welcome the transit hub of west of Portland suburbs. Beaverton Transit Center opened in 1988 as a bus only transfer hub. In 1998 Westside MAX opened with this as a major stop with 3 platforms a 3 tracks. The westside line was later renamed the Blue Line and runs from Gresham to Hillsboro runs.

The MAX Red Line opened in 2001 to the Airport, and was extend to BTC a few years later. Red Line trains typically start and end their journeys here on the center track

Now Feb 2, 2008, WES Commuter trains from Wilsonville will terminate at BTC on the other side of the busy bus area. This will make the BTC the busiest intermodal center in Portland with Light Rail, Commuter trains and several bus lines running thru or terminating here allowing convenient transfers.

Beaverton has always been the hub of the westside transportation. In the early 1900's Beaverton was served by 2 electric interurban lines. The Oregon Electric and the SP Red Electric.

A OE had a branch that diverted at Garden Home to Beaverton, Hillsboro, terminating at Forest Grove. At Garden Home trains went south to Tualatin, Wilsonville, Salem, Albany & Eugene.

The SP Red Electric had two branches from Portland join at Beaverton, one via Bertha the other via Lake Oswego. From Beaverton trains went to Hillsboro, Forest Grove, McMinnville, rejoin the line from LO/Newburg to Independence and Corvallis.

The WES train runs mostly on the old Oregon Electric now operated by Portland & Western Railroad. New tracks were installed on Lombard to bring trains to the BTC. MAX trains just west of BTC join the former Oregon Electric line right-of-way to Hillsboro. The SP route is intact from Beaverton to Forest Grove for freight only.

So what is old it new again!

There is $0.50 for the FtF, one quarter is a Utah Golden Spike quarter

Please do not trespass on railroad right-of-ways. There is also no need to go into the creek near the cache site.
