The lookout tower on Washington Island is its highest point. Enjoy the view.
Welcome to Washington Island. This was one of the first caches on the island, and it's on the highest point (and then some). From the tower, you can see across to Rock Island State Park, and back to the mainland.
The cache is an ammo box with the following contents:
- log book
- pen
- pencil
- Orienteering map from Busse Woods, in Elk Grove Village, IL
- Apple Computer window sticker
- 100 Franc bill (France)
- 1000 Lire bill (Italy)
- Guy Smiley doll
- Plastic paper clip
- Green Bay Sectional Aeronautical Chart
The walk to the base of the tower is very steep, but there is a staircase that can be used.
This could be difficult to find in the winter, especially since the ferry to the island doesn't run when the lake ices over. Then it's snowmobile city! The difficulty in winter becomes a 4.
