Geocache Description:

A hike up one of the more challenging trails in the area, with 4200ft. elevation gain topping out at roughly 7750ft.

I designed my "view" series of caches with people like wilderness guide in mind; those who like to have to work to make it to the cache site. Even though they have not been very popular so far, here is my third intallation in the series.

This cache is located at the site where the first fire lookout in the region once stood, and it's easy to see why. The views from the summit are great in every direction.

The hike is a challenging six miles each way up switchbacks and across rocky patches and hillsides. The elevation gain is fairly constant although not terribly steep. There are places to camp up the trail 3-1/2 miles and further, with campfires being legal because this is a wilderness area. A hiking book stated that this hike should take about 8 hrs. to complete. However my brother and i did it in just over six, so it is a do-able day hike.

Park at the trailhead located just before the copper creek bridge on Forest Service Road 1808 off of Bumping road. (about an hour and 15 minutes from Yakima) You will need a yellow parking sticker to park at this trailhead.

The cache is located under the pile of rocks at the summit in a smaller size tupperware container containing various items and a logbook. There was already a logbook there in a pvc container for everyone who summits this mountain.

Good luck, and take lots of water if you decide to do this one.
