Founders' Cemetery Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

eyeofWooglin: This was my first cache years ago. Unfortunately my schedule has become so hectic that I can no longer maintain many of my caches. I hope those who found it over the years enjoyed the hunt.

Geocache Description:

This is a three staged multi-cache. The first stage is a micro, the second a virtual cache and the third an ammo box. This will provide you with a nice history of Oxford's founding father.

Early settlers of Lafayette County in what was once Chickasaw Indian County, one of ten counties into which the Chickasaw Cession was divided, were buried from 1837 to 1865 in a tiny cemetery located just south of Oxford. The donor of the site for Oxford, which was incorporated on May 11, 1837, and purchaser of Lafayette County from the Indian Princess Hoka, is John J. Craig, a trader with the Indians and now a resident of this graveyard. This multi-cache takes you to the home of Mr. Craig's nephew, the first permanent white settler in the area, to his place of business in Oxford and to his final resting place. The coordinates listed will take you to this gentleman's home where you will find the coordinates inside a magnetic micro cache for the second stage of this multi-cache. At the site of the founding father's workplace you will need to discover the year his store was in operation. Using this information and knowing the number of letters making up the settler's last name, you will be able to decipher the coordinates for the final leg of the multi-cache--an ammo box placed just outside the confines of the Founders' Cemetery. The encrypted clue following this narrative is provided to help you find the micro in the first leg (the founder's home) if you have difficulty locating it. Good Luck, and enjoy learning about the early history of Oxford, Mississippi, one of Mississippi's most charming towns! Final coordinates: 34 (x-2)(x-4).(x-3)(y)(x-2)N 089 (x-1)(x-1).(x-3)(x+3)(y)W x = number of letters in founder's last name y = last digit in the year of the founder's business
