Geocache Description:

A cache designed for snowshoers at Artist Point on Mount Baker.

FTF honors go to Hydnsek & Cache Ahead - Congratulations!

This cache is intended to be done on snowshoes! Artist Point is a very popular trail on Mount Baker in Washington State.

Evidently there are several ways to approach this hike, but if you park at the upper lodge, like we did, it should be something like a 4-mile round trip with an elevation gain of roughly 1200 ft. I've heard several people call this an easy snowshoe hike, but we found it strenuous and it took us 3+ hours to complete the circuit. YMMV.

There was a 135 inch snow base the day this cache was placed, and the cache container was about two feet up from the snow. I suppose in theory if this cache was visited in the summer the container could be ~13 feet off the ground! Also, if there has been significant snowfall since the cache was last found, you may need to dig!

The cache container is a camo'd plastic jug with a screw-on lid.

WAIVER OF RESPONSIBILITY AND DISCLAIMER
Geocaching, like any outdoor activity, carries the risk of unforeseen hazards. We support a policy of not knowingly placing caches in areas that will create undue risk to the cache hunter. However, as conditions and cache locations may vary, it is the responsibility of the searcher to become thoroughly familiar with the conditions in the area to be searched, to adequately prepare for those conditions, and to conduct oneself safely and responsibly with respect to those conditions and with respect to his or her personal abilities and limitations. Individual cache sponsors assume no liability for events which may occur related directly or indirectly to one's searching for a cache.

Finally: Use common sense and pay attention to your surroundings - don't let your GPSr lead you over a cliff!
