Geocache Description:

A Very BOuLdeR Veterans Day!

BOuLdeR7 and Livingtoplay wishing you a happy Veterans Day!

This cache is a tiny token to show our gratitude to all Veterans. We chose this spot because it is near the Wood National Cemetery.

Wood National Cemetery is located on the grounds of a former Soldiers Home that today is called the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, Wis.

From 1867 until 1871, the home buried its soldiers in private cemeteries in the Milwaukee area. In 1871, a cemetery opened on the grounds. Originally known only as Soldiers Home Cemetery, it wasn’t until 1937 the name was changed to honor Gen. George Wood, a longtime member of the Soldiers’ Home’s Board of Managers. It became a national cemetery in 1973

The cache is located along the Hank Aaron State Trail. A good place to park to access the trail is on S. 56th Street one block north of W. Walker St. There is a paved access path where 56th Street dead ends near the trail. The terrain rating is a little high due to the steep slope if you choose this route. No need to climb any trees. If you visit the cemetery and approach from there, the terrain is much flatter.

The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to the Wisconsin DNR. Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the land manager. The DNR Notification form and land manager information can be obtained at: http://www.wi-geocaching.com/hiding
