The Observatory is located at the top of the hill near Derryfield Park off Bridge St. and Mammoth Rd. Parking is limited so you may need to park at the bottom on the hill near the baseball park.
This geocache is in an ammo box, located off a path. It is filled with an assortment of electronic parts and toys. Please take a picture and let me know when the camera runs out of film.
Background: Constructed in 1896, the 66-foot-tall tower is named for James A. Weston who left the city of Manchester $5000 to build it for science and education. In its early years, it was a popular destination for picnics and special events as it was at the end of the local trolley line. After being used as a spotting post during World War II, the building fell into disrepair and was closed for about 30 years. When it was due to be wrecked, community members rallied to restore the building which was reopened on September 11, 1977. The tower has a magnificent view of the White Mountains and the Merrimack Valley. Unfortunately, it is now only open for special events though the trails around it remain a popular recreation area for locals. A Letterbox may also be nearby.
