Mojave Desert, S/E of Barstow Daggett area. Soft sandy roads, high clearance & 4X4 would be a plus!
Go east on I-40 from Barstow. About 6 miles ahead take the "Daggett" off ramp and turn right. At the sideroad turn left and drive to the end of the asphalt road. This starts Camp Rock Road which leads south into the desert. Stay on this road until you intersect with another road also named Camp Rock Road. Continue on and follow your GPS.
I traversed this entire trail in 2 wheel drive, but there were a few places that had some pretty deep sand washes. I wouldn't recommend doing it with a 2 wheel drive vehicle unless you are with someone who can help pull you out if you get stuck. Just be safe and use your head! Also, this area gets VERY hot in the summer. Make sure you bring lots of water, sunscreen and a big hat! As with any off-road travels, make sure that you leave your itinerary with someone at home in case you get lost or stuck!
