Geocache Description:

Come one, Come all for an environmental workday at Bill Baggs – Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne, Florida. Workday will be from 9:00 am to 12 noon on Saturday, March 3, 2007. Restoration activities will likely entail exotic plant removal from natural areas. Come to the park gate at 8:30 am, tell them you are here for the CITO event and ask for directions to the meeting point.

For the more adventuresome, the park is allowing us to use their group camping area on Friday and Saturday night. This is a special treat as this area is typically reserved for Scouts, youth groups, and the like. Campsite is primitive, but facilities exist within walking distance.

Finally, on Saturday night, the Friends of Cape Florida is sponsoring a music event starring Grant Livingston, a local folk artist. Check him out at (visit link)
This promises to be a great evening of outdoor music (with a full moon!) and a chance for cachers to intermingle with other cachers and environmentally-minded folks.

For more information on the park see: (visit link)

The park currently contains a regular cache, a mystery cache, and two lengthy multis. New caches will be placed for this event as well. If any other cachers are interested in helping with the organization of this event (particularly auxiliary fun stuff, e.g. chubby bunny, kid’s events) contact me at tedcool@gmail.com.

The schedule so far is:

Friday: 6pm - ??? Friday campers check-in, Meet and Greet, Campfire
I will see if I can get there by 5pm to help others with late arriving. If the park gate is not open, phone Ted at 786-338-3744 or 305-509-2848. Go past gatehouse and turn right at 1st intersection (towards Boater's Grill). Campsite is off a short dirt access road 100 yards or so before you reach the parking lot for No Name Harbor and Boater's Grill.

Optional Dinner: 7:30-8:30 Boater's Grill, Local Food or Cooking in Camp. I will stay in camp to help with check-ins.

Saturday (9am-Noon) CITO (meet with Park Biologist at 8:30 am at Picnic Shelter (Pavillion) A1, if just arriving, ask for directions at gatehouse, tell them you are a volunteer) Please provide me with info for the volunteer form or sign at the event. For younsters under 18, please sign the attached Youth Volunteer Form (print from images or get at event) Park fees are waved for volunteers.

Saturday Lunch: Picnic Lunch / BBQ at Pavillion A1. The Friends of Cape Florida will provide the charcoal for the grills, plus some drinks and chips. We have the pavillion for the day, so it will serve as a 2nd "base camp" for whatever fun we pursue.

Saturday afternoon: Free for all, caching, beach, lighthouse tours (w/ a cache!)

Saturday 5:00-6:00 Dinner, potluck at camp. Ted will bring chilli.
