Le burle del Pievano Arlotto
Arlotto Mainardi (1396-1484)
Arlotto Mainardi, cappellano della flotta mercantile fiorentina, fu anche pievano della chiesa di San Cresci a Macioli nel comune di Vaglia (FI). Viaggiatore e buontempone, fu famoso per i suoi scherzi e le sue facezie, raccolte già in un libro pubblicato a Venezia nel 1515. Tra le tante vale la pena di ricordare la volta che, giunto sul suo cavallo all'osteria di Pontassieve in una notte d'inverno nella pioggia e nel fango, trovò i posti accanto al focolare tutti occupati e nessuno voleva cedergli il posto. Allora Arlotto chiamò l'oste e gli disse: "Ohimè, mi si è strappata la borsa in cui tenevo le mie monete: quattordici lire e diciannove fiorini, deve essere successo poco fa e le ho perdute tutte per strada, ma ora con questo buio non le troverò di certo, preparami da dormire che domattina di buon'ora voglio vedere se ritrovo qualcosa". Gli avventori ad uno ad uno, sentite quelle parole, cominciarono a congedarsi con qualche scusa e in breve Arlotto poté godersi il fuoco tutto per sé, e l'oste non lo fece neanche pagare! Un’altra volta che doveva recarsi dall’Arcivescovo di Firenze, Arlotto domandò all’Arcivescovo se poteva portarsi compagnia, l’Arcivescovo, pensando che portasse un confratello o un parente, rispose che sì, certamente, poteva portarsi compagnia. Arlotto portò con sè la “Compagnia del Coro” del paese, una ventina di tipacci che diedero fondo alle riserve e alla cantina dell’Arcivescovo, alla fine della giornata erano tutti ubriachi, Arlotto compreso. Stavolta l'Arcivescovo perse la pazienza e gli diede per punizione 10 giorni da scontare nella guardina dell'Arcivescovado, ma il giorno dopo dovette mandarlo via perché aveva cantato a squarciagola per tutta la notte la messa dei defunti senza farlo dormire! Anche di fronte alla morte Arlotto non si smentì: sulla sua tomba, nella chiesa di Gesù Pellegrino in Firenze, fece scolpire queste parole: "Questa sepoltura ha fatto fare il Pievano Arlotto per sé e per tutti quelli che ci vogliono entrare".
Priest Arlotto's Tricks
Arlotto Mainardi, chaplain of florentine marchant fleet, was also priest of the church of San Cresci a Macioli in the territory of Vaglia, near Florence. A traveller and witty man, he was famous for his jokes and fables, written in a book published for the first time in Venice in 1515. One of the most famous of them tells of when, in a rainy and cold night in winter, Arlotto arrived at a tavern in Pontassieve (a village near Florence), finding all the places near the fire taken, he called the host and said: "Oh dear, my bag has been torn and I've lost all my money on the way: fourteen pounds and nineteen fiorins, maybe it happened not far from here, but in this night what can I do? Prepare me a bed please, I'll try tomorrow early morning to find something". The customers one by one, hearing such words, began with an excuse to leave the tavern and Arlotto was soon able to have all the fire to himself, and the host didn't even ask him for any money! Another time when he had to visit the Archibishop of Florence, he asked the Archibishop if he could have permission to come with companions; the Archibishop, thinking he wanted to come with a priest of the brotherhood or a relative, answered that, yes, of course, he had the permission to come with some companions. Arlotto came with the “Companions of the Chorus” of the village, about twenty rough guys who finished all the food and the wine of the Archbishop. At the end of the day everybody was drunk, Arlotto included! This was too much even for the Archbishop, who gave him a punishment of 10 days in the prison of the Archbishop's palace, but the day after Arlotto was set free because he sang and shouted all night long the Funeral Mass not allowing the Archbishop to sleep! Even at death's door he didn't lose his sense of humour, and wanted this epitaph for his grave, in the church of Jesus Pilgrim in Florence: "Priest Arlotto made this sepulchre for himself and for all those who wish to join him".
Il pievano Arlotto amava passeggiare, spesso si recava a visitare il parroco di Cercina, vittima talvolta dei suoi scherzi, camminando sui sentieri di Monte Morello. La cache è nascosta sul sentiero CAI n.5/b, poco sotto il Piazzale Leonardo da Vinci da cui si gode una splendida vista su tutta la piana comprendente Firenze, Prato, Pistoia. Buon divertimento!
La cache è un tupperware 15x10 cm con coperchio blu, avvolto in un sacchetto di plastica, contenente moschettone, lente di ingrandimento, bussola, logbook, penna.
The priest Arlotto loved to stroll, he often went to visit the priest of Cercina, sometimes victim of his jokes, walking along the paths of Morello Mountain. The cache is hidden along the path CAI n.5/b, a little below Leonardo da Vinci Square, from which you can enjoy the view of the flat land including Florence, Prato, Pistoia.
The cache is a tupperware 15x10 cm, blue top, sealed in a plastic bag, starting contents: hook, magnifier, compass, logbook, pen.
