Barrels of Phoon! Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

ElectroQTed: Well, this cache has had a great run. I never expected so many people to be willing to strike a phoon pose and upload it for their fellow cachers' enjoyment. I'm also pleasantly surprised to see the number of people who have continued to phoon in various interesting locations and upload their pictures with their cache logs. A few have even submitted their pictures to www.phoons.com.

I also never expected the barrel pyramid to be taken down to make way for other prospects. The area of the Seagram Lands has had such a history locally in Waterloo, but sometimes, historic areas have to make way for progress.

I visited the site today with Laurie and Jess for some final phoon pics and to pick up the container and logbook. Many thanks to all who visited and phooned for this cache! A tip of my hat to you all!

Ted.

Geocache Description:

This is a 2 part cache. In addition to finding the cache, you will be required to submit your Phoon Photo with your online log, elstwise, your log will be DELETED!

The cache is located in a central hub of Waterloo. Nearby, we have a Visitor & Heritage Info Centre diguised as a train station, the Trans Canada Trail, The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, The Perimeter Institute, The Waterloo Memorial Recreation Centre and the Seagram Lands, where you can still see one of the old rack buildings where Seagram's finest was set to age. There is free parking right where you will find part 1.

Finding the lame lamp post micro will be the easier of this 2 part cache. Once you've found it, take a look around and locate the barrel pyramid - this will be the backdrop of your phoon photo. Cross the road at one of two nearby intersections. Strike the pose in front of the barrels and have your accomplice capture the moment. Do not climb the fence surrounding the barrels. Bonus points to anyone who gets a muggle to pose with them!

There is a small prize for the FTP (first to phoon!)

So...what's a phoon? Check it out at

Rules for the Phoon pose:

  • Stand sideways to the camera. (A Phoon is always viewed from the side.)
  • Bend your arms at the elbows. (Look like an athletic runner, not a ballerina.)
  • Lift your rear elbow (not your hand) so that it is easy to see behind your back.
  • Lean forward at the waist. This will help you look more energetic and will help you lift your rear ankle.
  • Bend at the knee, the leg you're standing on.
  • When possible, do not look at the camera and do not smile.
  • Either arm can be the rear arm. Either leg can be the rear leg.

You may pheel a little phoolish, but just go out and have some phoon!
