You've heard of that polar bear who was eating marshmallows, in a snow storm, right? That’s one side of the spectrum, this is the other. Depending on the moon cycle, the darkness you are about to enter may be darkest you have ever known. The stars have never been brighter and you've never felt closer to the spirits that are known to frequent this area.
Prepare to disappear into the darkness with flashlights and some sturdy shoes. Your flashlight will be your best friend in the hunt for clues on a 1871 Lava Flow and then down a trail thousands of years old.
In this treasure hunt "X" marks the beginning rather than the end, the coords will take you there. You will pick up the trail by standing on the X and looking 25-30 feet (in the makai direction) into the blackness before you.
Once you find the cache, the fastest route back to your car may not be the safest. Consider backtracking if you are not 100% comfortable in this terrain at night. If you take the short unmarked route, the last 20 feet up the embankment to the highway is a 4 terrain in the darkness.
Park your car between the 78 and 79 mile marker off Queens Hwy.
