The Catherine Desgagnes was originally launched in September 1961 with the name Gosforth, a part of the Burnett Steamship Company fleet.
It became a part of the Quebec & Ontario Transportation Company fleet in 1972, and renamed Thorold, it then was bought by Transport Desgagnes in 1983 and renamed Catherine Desgagnes
The boat is a ocean and seaway bulk carrier. The Boat is just over 410 feet in length and has a maximum load capacity of 8,350 tons. It is powered by a 6 cylinder, 4,100 horsepower diesel engine.
