Big Red Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Toby's Gang: After riding the MTB Series I can tell nothing out here survived. It's so bad it still looks like the fires were just a few weeks ago.

Geocache Description:

Anybody that has driven down Hwy 78 has probably noticed this hilltop. It really stands out from all the other hilltops because this one is all red.

I don't know if there was a fire here or the CDF bombers just drop any extra loads before landing in Ramona. Maybe they just have a few hot-shot pilots and they use this hill for target practice. In any case, you will see what I'm talking about when you get here.

I really wanted to place this cache right at the very top of the hill, but there are no trails that I could find and I didn't want to do any more bushwhacking then I already have.

To get to the cache site, you need to start in Pamo Valley and go to the top of Orosco Ridge and go south. You will get to a tight right hand turn in the dirt road and that's where the trail starts. It looks like some target practice goes on here so watch out for broken glass at the beginning.

After a while the trail just peters out and then you will see a series of bunny trails, take the one to the left and just follow them all the way to the cache. There will be some bushwhacking and maybe a little rock hopping, depending on which way you go.

The original contents of the cache is a red bike reflector, 1 Sacagawea dollar, a velcro strap, 2 batteries and 4 quarters.
