Climbing is necessary, cache is on Govt Property. Access is from the southeast. You will not have to cross private property to access the cache. Microsoft mapping, Terra Server and Map quest are all behind the times here. There is now an all-weather road that enters this area from the north east. I normally enter the area from the east, there is a bridge out now, so we have to circle the section and come from the west, turn south and then back west.
You are looking for an OD green ammocan. The container has several handy camping tools and a log book with a pair of pencils. Cache is about 10 feet east of coordinate location. Could be a tough climb and find, easier to walk around bluffs on the south or north. If you follow the GPS from the Farris Cave Parking lot, it will be work, but can be done. That is how we placed it. Care should be taken in this area, loads of spiders, poison ivy, poison oak, a variety of snakes are found here. The soil is normally wet and springy, most of the ground cover below the bluff is mossy and slick, so walk carefully. You will have a high probability of seeing buzzards, deer, turkeys, pheasant, quail, dove, box turtles, horned lizards, fence lizards, and regular grass lizards. Sometimes in the winter months you will be blessed with a bald eagle flying the river west from the lake. All sorts of hawks and owls are also frequently seen in this area. The chatter of the pesky red fox squirrel is almost non-stop in the oak grove. Coyotes and their tracks are also frequently present. The cache is on the east side of the Smoky Hill River. This is beautiful country, please respect it and keep your wits about you. Rattlesnakes may be in the area, but for a change, I have not seen one here. Be safe and good luck!
