Geocache Description:

This is a historical landmark cache with a wonderful view of the bay!  Come check out the cache, and maybe see some oysters!

"As the war effort grew, President Roosevelt designated an emergency shipbuilding program in 1941 to increase the merchant fleet that provided the Allied Forces with food and supplies.  The resulting utilitarian vessels were the Liberty Ships.  Nicknamed "ugly ducklings,"  these square hulled cargo ships were mass produced in record time using assembly lines and prefabrication.  In South San Francisco a total of 48 vessels were launched."
