You have 2 choices if you want to visit Inverie, a 16 mile walk from the nearest road over serious terrain, where there are 3 Munro's to navigate, (Ladhar Bheinn, Luinne Bheinn, and Sgurr na Ciche), or, your only other option (unless you own a helicopter) is the small boat service which runs from the port of Mallaig daily, this takes around 30 minutes. The Guinness book of records lists the public house here at Inverie as the most remote pub in mainland Britain,
Knoydart is a fantastic place to visit, you are totally cut off from the outside world here apart from the boat, there is actually a 7 mile stretch of road on the peninsula - but none of it is actually connected to the UK road network, it is known as Britain’s last wilderness.
unsurprisingly there is loads of walking here to be had, whether you want easy woodland strolls, hard mountainous terrain including the 3 Munro's mentioned, or a coastal amble, it's all here to be enjoyed, there are also marked mountain bike trails should you want to fetch the off road bikes with you.
Wildlife in the area is rich as well with Golden Eagles in the area, Sea Eagles, many types of other birds and lots of red deer, with lots more to see flourishing outside of the larger populated areas across the water. Please take time to visit the Knoydart Foundation rangers building which has loads of info inside, you can book deer stalking trips, guided walks, learn loads about the area and its history, and there is even a TV inside linked to a live bird camera! You can't miss it as its right next to the pub.
It's possible to stay on Knoydart and it comes highly recommended, although a day visit at times is possible a quick visit simply isn't enough to appreciate the vastness and remote qualities of the area.
The cache is located at the start of a mountain bike trail, a small distance from the pub and the boat landing. It is a letterbox cache so please feel free to stamp your book if you wish but don't forget to please leave the stamp in the cache.
