Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the above listed coordinates.

This is, however, a really good place to have some lunch if you want to take a break while hunting this cache.

These coordinates will only be the starting point for this cache hunt.

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again
Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land

This is cache number five in our Classics series. Although not based on a work of literature as the other caches in this series, the movie that inspired this cache is, in itself, a classic.

This cache was inspired by the film

“Everyone gets everything he wants. I wanted a mission, and for my sins they gave me one.”

The following is Classified:

MLPJC - 177TS007

TO: WILLARD, BENJAMIN L., Cpt. USA
0-1305301
U.S. Armed Forces Intelligence Hq.
Nha Trang
SUBJECT: Special Warfare Information, KURTZ, WALTER E., Col., Special Forces

Colonel Walter Kurtz was one of the most outstanding officers this country has ever produced. He was brilliant and outstanding in every way and he was a good man too. Humanitarian man, man of wit, of humor. He joined the Special Forces. After that his ideas, methods have become unsound... Unsound.

There's a conflict in every human heart between the rational and the irrational, between good and evil. The good does not always triumph. Sometimes the dark side overcomes, what Lincoln called, the better angels of our nature. Every man has got a breaking point. You and I have. Walter Kurtz has reached his. And very obviously, he has gone insane.

Now he's crossed to Cambodia with his Montagnard army, who worships the man, like a god, and follows every order however ridiculous. He has broken from the ranks and poses a clear and present danger to our objectives.

In his possession were numerous classified documents that outlined all future military operations along the DMZ to the Cambodian border. If these documents were to fall into the wrong hands, the results could be disastrous to our efforts.

A Special Forces unit was recently dispatched up the Nung River to confront the Colonel’s forces and retrieve the classified information. The operation failed. The following was the last transmission we received from the unit:

“This zone is hot. We can’t hold them off much longer.”

“Roger G3, Hold position. Sending Fox Four support.”

“There is no time. The unit has been split in two. We are outnumbered.”

“Roger Lima Charlie. Continue to hold position. Support to arrive in six minutes.”

“Pinned down. Can’t move. Field filled with claymore C4 in both east and west directions. Enemy approaching from front and rear.”

“Roger. Just six more minutes. Remain at present location. Please transmit exact location for support.”

“Echo India Golf Hotel Tango One.” Nothing but static follows, voices almost inaudible.

“Roger. Air support in route.”

This transmission was recorded the fourth of the month at 0521 hours, Nung River sector. We never heard from the Special Forces unit again. It is believed that Colonel Kurtz hid the documents in fear of getting captured. These documents must be retrieved at all costs as to not jeopardize the positions of the American Forces. It is believed that the possible location of the cache can be determined at Colonel Kurtz’s last known whereabouts along the Nung River. Although intelligence tells us that the documents are not there, clues have been possibly left behind pointing to their location.

Your mission is to go to the Nung River. Proceed to the location described in the final transmission from the Special Forces Unit to find Kurtz's last known compound. Once you are there, follow the map we are providing to you to locate the coordinates of the final cache of documents. Based on descriptions provided by the Special Forces Unit, the following is an assumed map of the area:

To review, your mission objectives are as follows:

1. Determine your starting point by reviewing all information contained in this dossier.

2. Follow the map provided to you by Army Intelligence to discover the possible hiding spot of the coordinates for the final cache of Top Secret documents.

3. Proceed to these coordinates and discover the hiding spot of the final cache.

The first stage of this cache is a micro. It contains the coordinates to the final stage. It is located approximately a quarter of a mile from the parking area shown on the map. The parking area will be your initial set of coordinates. There is a gate at this location that is sometimes used due to this being an outlet point for the Columbia Rowing Club. Please leave your car at the parking area and hike in to the cache following the map provided.

The final stage of this cache is an ammo box with a white geocaching blaze painted on each side.

Parking coordinates for the final stage are included in the first stage.

You will not be able to walk between the two stages.

Due to the terrain at the final stage, this cache is not recommended during or shortly after periods of rain.

The final stage will take you to "The End" of the river. It is a very short hike from the parking coordinates to the location of the final cache.

Good Luck and have fun!
