Time to get away from it all for a few days.

This
event was inspired by Shaker SLC's event last year where the planwas to hike to kings in one day starting at 2am. That sounded like a little too much for me so I decided to do a "for wimps" version of the event.

This event will be launched from the bench just East of Dollar lake. My plan is to hike from the Henry Forks trail-head Thursday afternoon (August 16th).

Friday (August 17th) we will hike
up to Gilbert Peak and West Gunsight peak then relax at Dollar lake for the evening. The route I have been looking at from dollar lake to Gilbert proceeds east around the ridge, then along the east slope head south just above the tree line until we are basically southwest of Gilbert Peak then up the ridge to the peak. If someone knows a better route I am happy to hear it. You are welcome to catch up with us any time Friday. All I am requiring to log this
event is you camp Friday evening near Dollar lake with the group.

If you are not feeling up to the two high points you are welcome to just join us at Dollar lake.

Saturday (August 18th) we will head up the main trial to Gunsight Pass and on to Kings Peak. From Gunsight
pass we have a choice. We can either continue on the ridge line following a less traveling and somewhat exposed route, or dropping down into the basin to the South. The later option is a well defined trail however it adds a couple of miles and adds several hundred feet of elevation loss. With any luck we will be back to Dollar by early evening. Some may choose to spend another night here and hike down on Sunday. Others might decide they are ready to
get off the mountain, even if by headlamp. As always with any trip like this, the schedule IS flexible. Several factors may change the plans. I will come prepared to come off the mountain as late as Monday if needed. My goal is to get both of the highest county high points before coming off the mountain.
