The Sands of Waikiki Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

thequeenbee: After looking around for almost two months I have not found a suitable new location for the cache that would fit the spirit and theme of the hide so I’ve decided that the time has come for retirement. If I do place a new container nearby it will likely be a brand new cache for you to find. However my real wish is that some of the newer cachers among us will use this opportunity to place an innovative cache of some sort in the area. Go for it!
Thanks to everyone who has visited The Sands of Waikiki—all 600+ finders in the past three years!

Geocache Description:

If you're vacationing in Waikiki or are there at the beach for some weekend sun and swimming, why not geocache while you are at it?

The challenge of this cache is not finding it. Your search should hopefully be wiki-wiki (quick). The challenge comes as you take it out of its hiding place and replace it without drawing attention. This may prove difficult if not impossible on a busy day!

The cache is a 6x5x2 inch lock'n'lock case under several inches of loose sand. Look on the beach side of the wall directly fronting the west end of the snack shop (click on photo links below to see exactly where! GPS signals can be bouncy here with all the buildings). Keep the plastic bag around the cache since it is often in wet sand. It would be best to bring a towel or mat and spread it out on location. Get a tan, blend in with the other beachgoers and watch the waves as you slowly, clandestinely, and gracefully find and replace the cache in its hiding place... The Sands of Waikiki.

Please, PLEASE, please re-hide the cache carefully in the same place you found it (see spoiler photos below), under enough sand to prevent plunder! Some of the staff at the snack shop know about the cache and will often give clues! THERE IS NO NEED TO USE A SHOVEL TO FIND THE CACHE! please be gentle since the container has already been replaced twice due to it being cracked. (The cache can easily be found by pushing the sand aside with your hands)

[***SEE NEW SPOILER PHOTOS BELOW!(posted 8 Jan 2007***] [ This cache seems to be the "Grand Central Station" of geocaches in Hawaii with cachers visiting from all over the world. Sometimes there are several finds logged in one day. Since this is so, I have been allowing 2-3 weeks time after a travel bug's "drop date" before considering it to be possibly missing if it seems that way. I realize that some travelling cachers will not do their logs until returning home so a missing bug may not be missing at all. I know it is disappointing to see a bug on the list and not find it at the cache when you get there. I'll make sure to post a note here after my cache checks to give the results of the TB roll call. I do appreciate the efforts of those who do the same in their postings. MAHALO! ]
