Crab's Below Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

CacheDrone: Hello fellow cacher,

It is unfortunate that I must archive this listing. After receiving an email from Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park about ongoing activities inside the park boundaries, all geocaches within need to be removed by their owner. This is one such geocache. Please make every effort to remove this geocache promptly and as a courtesy update the park superintendent of its removal.

Permission to place a geocache inside an Ontario Provincial Park requires written permission from the park superintendent via email from their official email account. This geocache listing can be unarchived if the required permission is obtained.

Geocache Description:

Crab's Below

Posted coordinates above will bring you to the beautiful and easily accessible Crab Lake in the Kawartha Highlands. Crab Lake (aka Star Lake) can be found just west of Wolf Lake after a short 107m portage. To reach the public boat launch on Wolf Lake's eastern shore, turn left off highway 28, just south of Apsley onto Anstruther Lake Road (or follow coordinates provided below).

The entire round trip paddle is about 10 kilometres. The 5km trip from the Crab Lake bluff back to the van took us 1 hour exactly.

Bring your tent! There are a few Crown Land campsites found on Crab Lake. However, be warned they are first come first served and are known to attract all kinds of crowds from the peaceful paddler/naturalist to the biker/fisherman with his motorcycle mama and a boom box.

Things have changed since we first set this up. This is now a designated provincial park complete with online reservations. So before packing up your overnight gear you had best make a booking (see link below). Enjoy.

Crab Lake is below (aka Crab's Below)

Wind power! If you're feeling lucky, bring a tent-fly or large umbrella and pray for a wind to blow in the right direction. Whether it works or not, it will definitely add to the entertainment level.

Geocache is in a large peanut butter container. The cache is hidden out of sight in a hollow log with a couple of rocks and sticks covering the hole. Be sure to replace its protective cover/camouflage. Please be VERY careful to leave it exactly as you found it! We wouldn't want the cache to go missing in action. Thank you.

Ciao and happy trippin',

TRIPPER & fam.

NOTES:

  1. A '5 Star rating'... You will need a boat/canoe/dingy/surf board to get to the cache -- or you could always wait for winter and some SOLID ice.
  2. Family friendly. Pack a lunch or even a tent for this one. And definitely don't forget the camera and fishing pole.
  3. If you haven't already, be sure to check out 'The Gems of Anstruther by The Explorer' which can be found just a few kms down the Anstruther Lake Road from the Wolf Lake boat launch.
