Geocache Description:

This cache is located a short distance before a spot where a plaque dedicated to Arthur Farnsworth, “The Keeper of Stray Ladies,” has been placed on a rock in Coppermine Brook.  The plaque was supposedly placed there by the actress Bette Davis, in memory of her late husband Arthur Farnsworth. Davis stayed at Peckett’s in Sugar Hill often.  She met Farnsworth at Peckett’s, and according to a local story, intentionally got lost on this trail so he would come looking for her.   A photo of the plaque is in the gallery.

Start your search for this cache by parking on Coppermine Road in a parking area near Rte. 116. Parking coordinates are given.  As a very prominent sign at the end of the parking area indicates, no parking is allowed beyond this point. Walk 0.4 mile up Coppermine Road (passing Beechwood Lane on the left) and turn left onto Coppermine Trail at a hiker symbol.   The cache is located a little off-trail on the brook (right) side of the trail, about 1 mile in from the parking area, just before you reach the area of the plaque.  The cache is a small lock & lock container with some small items for children, a pencil, and of course, a log.   Please camouflage the cache again after you return it to its hiding place.

After you find the cache, continue a short distance on the trail and go down one of the several paths to a shelf near the brook.  Walk southeast along the brook for a short distance until you see the plaque.  Coordinates for viewing it are given.    Please use caution when near the plaque since roots and rocks may be slippery.

Check the gallery for photos showing the closest path to the brook, the plaque on a boulder in the brook, and a view back to the trail from the viewing spot.

You may also wish to continue walking for another mile and half to Bridal Veil Falls, the very pretty spot at the end of this trail, and the site of another cache.  To do so, return to the trail and turn right.  In a short distance you will come to a trail junction; bear right on Coppermine Trail, a flat rocky path, where a smoother uphill path (a cross-country ski trail) diverges left.
