Geocache Description:

Het gebied Woensel-Noord is ingedeeld in vier wijken en 21 buurten.

De Tempel is een buurt in de wijk Aanschot, in het stadsdeel Woensel-Noord in de Nederlandse stad Eindhoven.

De bebouwing, zowel kantoren en lichte industrie als woningen, dateert voor het grootste gedeelte uit de jaren '70. Uitzondering hierop vormen vijftig woningen aan de kant van de John F. Kennedylaan. De straten van de buurt, die onder het stadsdeel Woensel-Noord valt, zijn vernoemd naar Belgische plaatsen. Vanwege deze achtergrond wordt de wijk ook wel de Belgiëbuurt genoemd.

Het woongedeelte van de buurt is opgebouwd uit zowel huur- als koopwoningen, waarbij de eerstgenoemden in de meerderheid zijn. Het buurtcentrum ligt aan het Belgiëplein. Daar zijn behalve een supermarkt onder meer een kapper, kledingzaak, Chinees restaurant en friettent te vinden. Aan de zuidzijde van De Tempel ligt een klein industrieterrein waarop vooral dienstverlenende firma's gevestigd zijn.

In 1813 duikt de naam de Tempel voor het eerst op als boerderij annex herberg. Deze lag aan de oude heerbaan die van Woensel naar Son liep. Bij de vorming van Groot Eindhoven kreeg de straat waaraan de boerderij ligt, onderwijl de Oude Tempel geheten, de naam Tempelstraat. De onverharde weg verbond de Tempel, waarvan de oorspronkelijke locatie nu in Vaartbroek ligt, met een nieuwbouwwijk die de naam De Tempel kreeg.

The area Woensel-Noord is divided into four districts and 21 neighborhoods.
De Tempel is a neighborhood in the District of Aanschot, in the city part Woensel-Noord in the Dutch city of Eindhoven.

The buildings, both offices and light industry and homes, for the most part dating from the 70s. Exceptions are fifty homes on the side of the John F. Kennedylaan. The streets of the neighborhood are named after Belgian places. Given this background, the neighborhood is also kwown as the Belgian-neighborhood.

The living area of the neighborhood is made up of both rental and owner-occupied housing, whereby the former are the majority. The community center is located at the Belgium Square. There are besides a supermarket also a hairdresser, clothing store, Chinese restaurant and snackbar. On the south side of the temple is a small industrial area in which mainly service firms are located.

In 1813 the name The Temple pops up for the first time as a farm and inn. This was located on the old Roman road that ran from Woensel to Son. In the formation of Great Eindhoven, the street where the farm was located, now called the Ancient Temple aquired the name of Temple Street. The dirt road connected the Temple, whose original location now lies within Vaartbroek, with a new neighborhood which was given the name The Temple.
