Magnetic film can---I thought I would never place a cache in a news
stand, but I didn't have much of a choice for this cache.
Stretching between Third and Ninth Streets,
the district includes 12 movie theatres built between 1910 and
1931. By 1931, the district had the highest concentration of
cinemas in the world, with seating capacity for more than 15,000
patrons. Many are now gone and most of the remaining theatres
are used for things other than theatres.
Detail of the theatres can be found
here

and here

.
Before WWII, Broadway was concerned by some
to be the center of Los Angeles, with the theatres and department
stores. The department stores are gone, but there is a
thriving Latino business district now in its place.
The Los Angeles Conservancy offers tours of
the District each Saturday at 10:00. Go
here for details of the walking tours.
The cache is located across the street for the Orpheum. I thought I
would never place a cache in a news stand, but I didn't have much
of a choice for this cache.
