Tom Sawyer: Classic Children's Books Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

COC_BeccaDay: Since this hide is different from the original Tom Sawyer, and no one has found the new one, I'm going to archive and create a new listing. We'll see if people can find the new one with the added incentive of a new find.

Geocache Description:

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

This book was written by Mark Twain in 1876 and tells the tale of a young boy, Tom Sawyer. Tom Sawyer is growing up in a small town along the Mississippi River. He is full of mischief and uses his brains to convince people to do things like paint the fence for him or trade their Sunday School tickets to him to avoid doing the work himself. He and some other boys, including the orphan Huck Finn, take off and spend a few days playing on an island and then decide to come back home just in time to attend their own funeral. He becomes engaged to a girl named Becky Thatcher and takes a punishment for her in school. Later he and Becky end up lost in a cave with a local murderer. What happens next? Do the children make it out of the cave alive? What happens to Huck Finn? You’ll have to read the book to find out what happens to this mischievous and clever young boy.

This is another book that I read several times in my childhood. My favorite scene was when the boys ran away from home and then came back for their own funeral. Can you imagine the nerve?! I admired the spunk of Tom Sawyer and how he was constantly in trouble and yet he had a good heart. I know Tom Sawyer would have liked geocaching as he was always looking for an adventure. I think that this mischievous little boy would have liked a mischievous little hide as well.

About this series

When I initially sat down and started writing down the titles of classic children’s books I soon found a very long list. I decided to limit myself to some that are books that I actually read when I was a child, most of which I read several times, and loved. I still had a hard time narrowing down my search. There are so many fabulous books out there and the classics are still read for a reason, they’re great literature! So dust off your library card and go check out some of these wonderful books. I am initially hiding 9 caches for the Waukesha Janboree and it was not easy to only choose 9 classic books. Maybe you could include in your log whether or not you’ve read the book and what you took away from it.

Don’t forget to write down the number inside of this cache to help you find the “To Kill a Mockingbird” puzzle cache GC4W8H5.

This cache was hidden for the 2014 Waukesha Janboree. Permission has been given by the Waukesha City Parks and Rec for the placement of this geocache. Please be respectful of the environment and remember that this is a very high traffic area and you will need to be stealthy so that the geocache isn’t muggled.
