Geocache Description:

Castle Craig Cache

This is a multi part cache, the first part of which is a very small micro and sits on top of East Peak in Hubbard Park in Meriden.  The cache is just large enough for the co-ordinates for the final stage which is a normal size ammo can.

Castle Craig (which is really just an observation tower) sits on the edge of East Peak and if you want to climb to the top of the tower it'll put you over the 1000 foot mark in elevation.  There are commanding views of Meriden and the surrounding towns from up here.

There are a number of ways to get up to the tower:

1: Drive up to the tower via the paved road (only open April through October).  It's 4 miles and takes about 10 minutes.

2: Hike or bike up that same roadway (weather permitting all year round).  It's still 4 miles and it all depends on how fast you can walk/pedal.

The Co-ordinates for the start of the road up are N 41 32.961 W072 49.772

or

3: Take the white trail from inside Hubbard park and approach the peak from the front.  This third option is significantly shorter, and in the opinion of Mr. and Mrs. Wilkens (that would be us) it is the best route.  It's steep in parts but cuts the trip down to about a mile perhaps a little more (add another star to the terrain rating if going this way). The trail head can be found to your left as you drive around the lake.

The Co-ordinates for the trail head are N 41 33.031 W072 50.113

First to find get a commemorative dog tag, certificate and of course, CACHE GLASS!
