Geocache Description:

A monument marking where the Zion Welsh Church was, 1847-1930.

In 1844, John Langdon and sons started a sawmill on Duck Creek, a few miles north of here. Later, a flour mill was added, and the name "Florence" was given to this area. They borrowed money from James Bell for milling machinery, but defaulted on the loan. Mr. Bell took posession, and name the place "Bellville".Mr. Bell sold the property to two Welshmen and left town. By this time, Welsh peple were settling this area, as it reminded them of their homeland, Wales. They called this area "Cymru", the old Roman name for Wales. In English, we pronouce it "Cambria". They built their church near the marker.
