Geocache Description:

Deer Creek

This cache is at a bridge over Deer Creek and I placed it as a tribute to my late husband. He and our two sons enjoyed wade fishing this area and sometimes would bring home a few fish to eat. In the summer this is a beautiful area and in the fall and winter you may spot a deer or two drinking from the creek. I have often seen other wildlife near the bridge.

On the evening before he passed away we were crossing the bridge on our way home, he decided to stop and try his luck at catching some panfish. He really enjoyed catching smallmouth bass from up and down the stream. After taking me home he returned with his fishing rod. I was concerned about him being there alone, he had been ill for quite sometime. He assured me he would be fine, he had done this many times.

He was well known in many counties and cities throughout the state for his work with environmental issues. He worked closely with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the Water Environment Federation. As the superintendent of a municipal wastewater treatment facility he held numerous licenses for the treatment of water and wastewater.

When he returned home that evening he was totally exhausted, barely able to breathe or walk. He said that while standing on the bridge he noticed a tractor battery laying on the bank of the creek. He walked down the bank and removed it from the water. He was so concerned about the effects on the enviornment he disregarded his own health and safety. The next evening he passed away at the age of forty three. He had the pleasure of catching a few more fish one last time that evening and did something he knew would make a difference to the stream, the fish and the wildlife that lives along the creek.

I have placed a travel bug in the cache container. I am calling it "Take Flight" and would like to see it travel as far as possible. It is in remembrance of all organ donor's and recipients. Be careful and hopefully you won't find any batteries at this cache site. Container is an ammo can stocked with trade items for all ages.

I changed the coordinates slightly, the trees block the satellite view some but not that far off. Took an average of three readings from two different gps's. Its there, just gotta look for it.
