John Charles Darke a surveyor and explorer on his return journey from the Gawler ranges reached these rocks, known as Waddikee Rocks, on the 22nd of October 1844.
Speared by natives the next day, he died on the 24th and was buried at the foot of Darke Peak.

Extract from Darkes journal as entered by Theakstone:

October 24...I have dressed the wounds of Mr Darke, and bled him, but found his extremities getting cold and I informed him I feared the event. About ten o'clock he told me he was dying, that mortification had taken place, he was out of pain; he gave me his last commands, and died five minutes to twelve, quite calm to the last minute.'

An easy climb to the top of Waddikee Rock gives a good view of the surrounding district.
The cache is a 2 litre container with the usual logbook and pencil, a Honda pannikin, plastic bunny, fridge magnet and plastic saw

Another one of these interesting places we wouldn't have seen if it wasn't for geocaching. Great view from the rock and a very easy climb. TNLNSL

Thank you.

An interesting spot. I walked in from the main road and then discovered that there was a perfect parking area that I’d missed . The cricket pitch was a “what the…?” moment, as was the signpost atop the rock.
Found the cache in good condition. Signed the log but made no swaps. Cheers.

WanderingAus wandered by on day 110 of a "climatic refugee" trip, and made a fairly easy GAFF 1 find. I had done some serious planning to make this one my 1900th find. I read the descriptions for all regulars along the highway, and this one impressed me most. I only had to skip a couple of caches to make the numbers work out, but it was worth it. What a great spot.

My find No 1900, L special 1900th Calling Card, TNLNSL, dropped my WanderingAus Happy New Year 2008 Gold GC in for a visit before grabbing it back again. Rocky Glen Grom's Froggie (ref = TB279R0) definitely is not in the cache.

*Recommended* *Overall Experience: 4*
