Geocache Description:

This EXTREME hunt will take you 6-7' beneath the wave's of Hanmore Lake!!! A diving mask and snorkel is required. Launch your watercraft from the Main Beach at Hanmore Lake Recreation Area north of Smoky Lake on Sec.855 (N54'36.192 W112'42.491) The co-ord's for the cache will take you to a log on the shoreline with a green rope tied around it to moor your boat! This mooring log is just down the shoreline a 100' or so from a makeshift campsite...you'll see the sign and tub!
If you sit on that log at the green rope and look across the lake...you'll spy a beaverlodge on the opposite shore. The cache will be found along a projected line from the green rope to the beaverlodge!!! You're looking for a green container tied to a small rock with yellow nylon rope. The container will be floating about 2.5 feet off the bottom...but 5 feet below the surface!!! The water WILL be over your head...you DID bring that mask and snorkel...RIGHT!!!
I found it easiest to dive down, grab the rope and carry the whole works to shallower water. Take the container to shore and you will have water draining out of it's bottom...this is normal...water does get between the inner and outer casings of the container. I found that after it's been in cold water and you open it...condensation quickly forms inside the cache. PLEASE...bring some paper towels/rags and use a stick or twig from shore to wipe out the inside and let it air dry for at least 15 minutes before buttoning it back up!!! Make sure the zip-lock the log is in is re-sealed properly and does not get an edge stuck into the rubber seal as you screw the cap back on.
When you place the cache back into the water you will see air bubbles streaming out as water fills between the inner and outer casings again...they should stop quickly and the cache should be floating the way you found it!!! PLEASE... place it back along the projected line...with at least 5' of water above the container so it's well below the ice level that will form this winter!!!
A word of CAUTION...this is a Difficulty 4...Terrain 5 cache...make sure you are up for the challenge...as YOU are responsible for your own safety!!! PLEASE bring along a digital camera and post photo's of your find!!! There are some small rubber trinkets in the cache that seemed appropriate...the FTF prize will be mailed to the lucky Extreme Geocacher with the biggest "stones"!!!
