This cache was placed during the 10th Anniversary Celebration for the 50th Arkansas State Park, Mt. Magazine State Park.
Wherever you look on top of Mt. Magazine you may run onto to remnants of settlers past. The visitor center has lots of information on these hardworking people who eeked out an existence on the mountain top. Think about what this flat area would have looked like when the last inhabitants lived here. A small cabin and a barn of some sort most likely sat nearby. You can see where a smooth area was used for a garden or maybe a corral for the animals. Water was most likely fetched from a nearby spring not too far away. The outhouse was out back somewhere.
Also nearby to this spot was a former tower site. The former road, now a trail, led to the site. I have not seen much information on it. If you run onto what is left of the foundation, post some pics and coordinates.
Also, this cache is near to the trail, so there is no real need to bushwhack very far. The closest trailhead is near to the Visitor Center.
The more you write the more I like. Please include any animal encounters during your search and hike to the cache.
A final note...on the day I placed this cache I gave a "demonstration" of geocaching to seven individuals as part of the weekend activities. If any of those seven find this cache, please mention it in the logs.
State Park permit #7 issued by Mt. Magazine State Park.
