Geocache Description:

Nah, I don't think this is going to work for a souvenir for this event. Darn!

NOTE THE VENUE HAS CHANGED AND THIS IS NO LONGER A COOKOUT. YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE YOUR ENTRY TO PIZZA RANCH TO ACCESS THE EVENT.

Ten years ago to this date I signed up for my Geocaching.com account and found my first cache, GeoScouter (GCGKV1), not that far away from this event in Happy Rock park. Geocaching was brought to my attention by my manager at work at the time, an old, grisly, field-tested retired Army full-bird Colonel with interests such as these. I proceeded to go home and make my account that evening. I saw GeoScouter within walking distance of home so the next day I went out and purchased my first GPSr, a blue eTrex Legend. For cachers who have not been around since those days, it was a black-and-white unit that connected via serial port to the computer. No cache information was stored on the device and you either had some information that was crammed into the waypoint name, or you printed out the descriptions and took them with you. A couple years later units came out with the capability of having cache information on the unit, and then of course phones have taken over, especially with newer cachers.

I like many cachers, especially starting back 'in the day', started slowly but worked myself up into a 2000-find year in 2009 and have been off-and-on since then. I voluntarily took about two years off to concentrate on more important things, but I am glad to be back! I would like to celebrate this occasion with my Geocaching friends. We will convene at this location at 11:00 AM for a potluck cookout. The plan is to have hamburgers and hotdogs with whatever sides are brought by everyone. Please contact me with which dish/side/drink you are providing so we do not have duplicate effort. (We don't need 15 bags of chips!) I will provide the meat and eating utensils/plates/napkins. We will most definitely need condiments and buns. Don't forget about the CITO prior to this event!

I have some caches planned to be released at this event so come ready for some finds afterwards!
