This cache is near the most remote part of the Akamas peninsula. A great challenge!
This cache poses a great challenge, since it's near the most remote part of the Akamas peninsula. It's on a beach surrounded by high cliffs. There's at least 100m descend to get to the beach. There are many pieces of driftwood
on the beach and there's no signal for mobile phones in that area...
We got there during a 22Km hike in Akamas. We didn'g actually go there to place a cache, but when we saw the place we couldn't resist. We built a container from materials we found in the area and in it we placed two
sheets of paper to serve as a logbook, a pen and some cache items we happened to be carrying (pen with light, stuffed crocodile, small basket).
If you plan to walk all the way from Baths of Aphrodite, be warned that it will take many hours to get there and back.
If you plan to approach by car, you will need a 4x4 to get near. You will still have to walk, so in both cases carry water, sun blocking lotion and a hat (especially
if you are going there during the summer). Be careful while descending to the beach.
Once you get to the beach it should be easy to find the cache. Since it will be a pity to go all the way there and not find it, I included some spoiler photos with the actual cache location.
Unfortunately the first time we visited the place our camera had a problem so the pictures of the area are not clear, but you can still get an idea of the place.
Let's see if anyone manages to get there :-)
Update 1-Aug-2013
After receiving a number of reports that the cache could not be found, we visited the place and hid a new one, a little higher so that it doesn't get washed away by the sea. The coordinates of this listing have been updated.
When we got there we noticed that there were turtle tracks and nests on the beach! If you see any, be careful not to disturb them.
