The Nicholson House, the oldest surviving frame structure in Lakewood.
Built in 1839, the home is regarded as one of the most authentic examples of New England architecture in northern Ohio. The exterior reflects the natural evolution of a pioneer home, with a final back section added in the mid 1800s and a second-story addition around 1900.
The widowed Betsey Nicholson undertook a major renovation around 1870. The result was Victorian-era splendor lavishly displayed throughout the home, including four wonderful parlors which help to create an enchanting mood for virtually any social gathering.
In 1985, the house was saved from demolition when it was purchased by the Lakewood Historical Society and the City of Lakewood.
