This cache is not on the ancient Forest boundary of the 1240 Perambulation, but has been placed as a waymark between Plym Head and Eylesbarrow. More details about the Perambulation can be found on the cache page for the Dartmoor Forest Bonus. On the front page of the logbook is an adjustment to be made to the Bonus co-ordinates, which you will need to find the Bonus.
The Jobbers’ Path, otherwise mistakenly known as the Abbot’s Way, crosses the Plym here at Plym Ford. On the hillside next to the Ford are the remains of a very old tin mine, the Crane Lake Mine. These remains are much older than those at the Eylesbarrow Mine, further down the hill towards Sheepstor. The path divides here; turning east takes you along the edge of Crane Hill eventually to Nuns Cross, turning west you head towards Sheepstor.
Although the ford would be easy to cross on horseback or quad bike, when on foot it’s much easier to cross the small river a little upstream of the ford.
If doing this cache as a standalone, the closest parking is at the Scout Hut (waypoint below), and there is a good track most of the way. If doing the Perambulation as a route, the next point on is Eylesbarrow. It’s a fairly easy walk in a straight line from here to the top of the hill, and not too boggy, but if you take the left fork towards Eylesbarrow mine, the path is very good and it is then a very short pathless trek to the summit.
