Geocache Description:

This multicache is located in La Sabana Park, in the heart of San Jose.

HISTORY

The park was officially inaugurated in 1977, though its origins go back two centuries. San José's parish priest at the end of XVIII century (1783 exactly), Manuel Antonio Chapuí, donated several plots of land in Mata Redonda, "in order to favor Costa Rican's interests". Since that moment this area has house the current park and has been used for recreation and sports activities.
Costa Rica's first president, Juan Mora Fernández, and other josefino personalities devoted themselves to providing the park with several dispositions with the aim of preserving this green area as a legacy for future generations.

For more than 150 years the park developed its characteristic vegetation, spurred by planting campaigns from the citizenship. Although, in 1930, this project was halted, when the government decided to locate the country's first international airport within the park area. La Sabana International Airport worked for 44 years, until the inauguration of current Juan Santamaría International Airport.
During the 1960s decade the idea of turning La Sabana into San José's lungs was again taking up. With that goal, trees, shrubs and grass were planted. It was in 1977, during the administration of Daniel Oduber, La Sabana was officially classified as the Metropolitan Park. More recently, La Sabana had been declared National Architectural Heritage, by Executive Decree 29305-C, dated February 23, 2001.

LANDMARKS

La Sabana's most prominent buildings are the country's national stadium and art museum. Both are inside the park green space, the first is currently under construction, above the area where the old stadium was located, and the latter nowadays fills the former La Sabana Airport main building.

An artificial lake, several sports fields, running and skating tracks and a shooting range are inside its boundaries. La Sabana, with all its beautiful lakes and fountains has become a favorite place for Ticos and Visitors alike, to enjoy picnics, outdoor concerts and exhibitions. Surrounding this beautiful park, several institutions have located their main offices. Costa Rica's main electricity company, I.C.E, and the Comptroller General are just some examples.

ABOUT THE CACHE

Many geocachers have tried to hide and maintain cache sites in this park, but the curious nature of the Costa Ricans always results with the caches being muggled. This multicache appears to be safest option. The search will take you on a leisurely stroll around the park as you attempt to figure out this puzzle. Once you calculate the final coordinates you will find yourself on to the edge of the park where we hope the cache will remain safe (let’s keep our fingers crossed).

You may take a picture of the first stage but please DO NOT reveal the other stages to others, otherwise your log will be deleted. Enjoy the hunt, happy geocaching!
