Dundridge Manor
The origins of Dundridge Manor have somewhat faded over the centuries and no one has a true date of its beginnings. There is definite evidence that in the 2nd half of the 12th Century, there was both a manor and a chapel at the site and that it was built on the site of Iron Age occupation. The only original feature that now remains, is the surrounding moat; as more recent buildings have long since replaced the manor.
The name 'Dundridge' is probably a derivation of the Old English words 'dun hrycg' or 'bare ridge' which also would confirm its pre 12th Century dating, as much of the Chilterns was once bare before major forestation happened around the 12th and 13th Centuries.
Today, the area of 'Dudridge Manor' houses a collection of residential properties complete with a drawbridge to take the houses' residents across the moat.
You are looking for a 1.5Ltr Tupperware container in a camo bag. Be aware that the bridleway can become very muddy, especially after heavy rain so sensible walking boots are recommended.
Best place to park is 'around' N51 45.132 W000 40.127. These co-ordinates take you to the road end of the drive, and you can safely park on the verge just after the entrance. Please park courteously and be mindful of any gates and entrances. DO NOT park on the driveway of Dundridge Manor!
