One of the most surprising hikes i have been on in a long time! This time of year Devil's Canyon is lush with vegetation and there are spectacular oak trees all along the canyon. The one difficulty is the Poison Oak, so wear long plants! None of the caches we grabbed or placed were in or around any PO but it is all over the sides of the trail in sections! This is a nice gentle rise all the way back 5.5 miles.
Lots of big oaks along the trail, some have fallen and partially blocked the trail. Some we went around, others under, and a few we went around. Notice there were several fallen giants near the GZ. You have passed 4 miles up the canyon, there are very short, steep sections of trail that you go up, seemed like some sort of 4 wheel vehicle used to travel along up here when this was a ranch. Lots of signs that man had made this a road of sorts and it has no just fallen into decay. Great beauty though. You are looking for a duct taped pill bottle in the devils throat. You will seewhen you arrive, not as hard as it sounds. It is log only, and you have made it up here, you should have way more than a pen with you! Good shoes, long pants, good hiking shoes, lots of water and hopefully a hiking partner! Enjoy the tranquil canyon and remember to pack out what you bring in and maybe something extra. Look for the wire and please replace cache as you found it...no need to pull hard, just be gentle. Happy Caching!
