Geocache Description:

Park at the church in Cliffe village A short walk west will give the East co-ord
It is a bit prickly

This cache is on an old cold war underground civil defence bunker . This one is a small one that would have had only 2 or 3 people inside who would have been protected from the result of a nuclear explosion and whos job would be to report back to a central command bunker details of strength and angle of blast wind direction , casualtys if known , details of damage and anything else relevant . They were part of the post war civil defence cor that was dispanded in the 60’s. There are many of these places around the country mostly unknown now as they are either filled in or overgrown.. they are usually sited like this one so that they had a good view of the surrounding countryside. You will see at the cache site a good view of the Thames estuary and Canvey Island oil refinary and this side of the river down on the marsh the remains of the explosives works sheds
