Lest We Forget - Dorset #5 Multi-cache
Dorsetgal & GeoDog: Many thanks Snapdragon333 for the details of what has apparently happened to this cache.
Obviously the hide is now compromised by Susy & Co so, regrettably, I'm archiving the cache.

This is the fifth of a series of very simple offset Caches where
clues are obtained from the information recorded on War Memorials,
originated in this area by
0nthetrain. This series was inspired by the approaching
anniversary of the death of his dear friend and colleague, Ian
Hall, who died serving his country on 25th May 1982.
Having completed a couple of the earlier caches in the series I was
inspired to set one in memory of all those who gave their lives
from Poole, and particularly those who left from Poole for D-Day.
"During World War II, Poole was the third largest embarkation point
for D-Day landings of Operation Overlord, and afterwards served as
a base for supplies to the allied forces in Europe. Eighty-one
landing craft containing American troops from the 29th Infantry
Division and the U.S. Army Rangers departed Poole Harbour for Omaha
Beach. Poole was also an important centre for the development of
Combined Operations and the base for a U.S. Coast Guard rescue
flotilla of 60 cutters." - Wiki
The starting point for this cache is naturally, the War Memorial in
Poole Park, which the co-ordinates will lead you to.
There are a couple of questions to answer in this vicinity.
Turn the answers into numbers by adding the respective alphabetical
values, A= 1, B= 2 and so on to Z= 26
Northing question to answer: Is the inscription for World
War 2 facing the lake or facing the road?
Northing: Answer = **** = _ + _ + _ + _ =
Look around you for another nearby memorial ... across the road.
Westing question to answer: Which association was
responsible for placing the plaque which refers to The Kohima
Epitaph?
Westing: Answer = ***** **** = _ + _ + _ + _ + _ + _
+ _ + _ + _
Now add 904 to the Northing calculation, and add 270 to the Westing
calculation and you should have the final co-ordinates.
Cache is at:
N 50 42 . _ _ _ W 001 58 . _ _ _
It is a small lok n lok box, containing logbook, pencil, an FTF
badge, various keyrings a toy car and a Dorsetgal pathtag.
Access Note: I set this cache using a wheelchair, however, the
placement of the actual box involved some scrambling and help and
for that reason, I would say it is more suitable for accompanied
wheelchair users. A w/c user can defintely get to all the stages
but I doubt could retrieve alone.
I thought about this aspect of the cache long and hard, but my
determination to set a lunchbox and not another micro meant the
compromise in this location.
When the cache was replaced in August, I used a different container
so you are now looking for an approx 6 inch tall screw top cammo
tub.
