The Muppet Show, a half-hour long musical comedy variety show, aired on TV from 1976-1981. The action in each episode included onstage acts and frantic backstage activity among emcee Kermit the Frog, his Muppet friends and a live celebrity. The creation of puppeteer Jim Henson, The Muppet Show introduced us to many endearing characters, many of whom are being celebrated with caches in and around the Whitnall Park/Root River Parkway area.
Muppet Labs: Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew is The Muppet Show's resident scientist. Named after Robert Bunsen, the inventor of the Bunsen burner and with a honeydew shaped and hued head, Dr. Honeydew did periodic science segments from Muppet Labs, “where the future is being made today.” This absent-minded scientist has no eyes, only transparent, lensless glasses. Most of Dr. Honeydew's experiments cause great harm to his long-suffering assistant, Beaker. Red-tufted coifed Beaker is nearly mute, usually only vocalizing a panicked “Mee” or “Meep” at the prospect of having to be the guinea pig yet again to one of Dr. Honeydew's far-fetched experiments.
***MUPPET NEWSFLASH***
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew's latest invention has caused Beaker to become invisible! If you and your GPSr listen carefully, Beaker will give you directions back to Muppet Labs.
