Geocache Description:

After a few sedentary event caches where our focus has been food, it’ll be time to turn our minds and bodies to exercise to burn off those excess calories. So here’s an event cache to help you back onto the straight and narrow…

Our venue will be known to one and all – iconic, majestic, dominating views of the Hauraki gulf – yep, Rangitoto Island.

I've included a couple of websites providing information - Wikipedia (visit link) and Department of Conservation (visit link). There'a a basic map of the island here (visit link)

FERRY TIMETABLE
There is usually NO accommodation on the island however tofska has arranged to rent one of the few remaining traditional bachs for the Saturday night. If you'd like to stay a night please contact tofska direct via e-mail - first come first served.
The information below has been extracted from the Fullers ferries website. For full details visit (visit link)

EVENT DETAILS

The purpose of the event is to allow geocachers to explore the unique features of this volcanic island. Travelling to and from the island will provide cachers the opportunity to chat and swap stories. I'm also suggesting that for those who plan to spend the day that we have lunch together at the summit at midday.

CACHES ON RANGITOTO

There are a number of caches on the island for those than haven’t ventured forth before, and with a bit of luck there should be a couple more by the time the event takes place.

For those planning a 1/2 day trip it should be possible to get to the top and back and complete at least one of the caches on the island.

ALTERNATE ENDING TO LOTR3

For those planning a full day you may be interested in the following.

There was nearly a very different ending for the final cache in the Lord of the Rings series. This will be a unique opportunity to explore how it "could have finished". If this appeals to you please indicate so in your log so I can gauge numbers.

Please indicate whether you plan to spend half or whole day, and if whole, whether you want to have a look at how LOTR3 could have finished
