Geocache Description:

A silly event to celebrate broken bones and cheap cache containers!

Info up to date as of 6-13. PLEASE NOTE THE LOCATION CHANGE. DETAILS BELOW.

As with all event caches, the "hidden date" in the header is the date of the event. ;-D

OK, so I fractured my arm. The radius, to be exact. It's the first cast I ever had, so I'm darn well going to milk it for all it's worth! Come sign my cast! And Threelanes may have another one there for you to sign, as well. She did a better job of breaking hers than I did. SHOW-OFF!

Now for the Ammo Can thing ... we have these 500 or so ammo cans (a group of us bought some govt. surplus and there are plenty to be had at under a dollar per can; please email me if you would like some reserved.)that we need to distribute, and thought the easiest way to do it would be to say "come and get 'em!!" So ...

COME AND GET 'EM!!!

Lowracer suggested a can decorating contest, and that sounds pretty fun! Bring your paint pens or whatever (if you intend to use spray paint bring a large overspray box, please!!) and I'll figure out some kind of prize ... hmmm ... maybe some ammo cans??? [;)]

UPDATE ON AMMO CAN AVAILABILITY:
FINAL CAN COUNT IS 425, plus some beat up cans and lids that we can probably work another 25 out of if we're lucky. This was always first-come first-served, so the people who ante'd up for the auction will get first priority, and everyone else will get cans in order of their requests until the cans are gone. Then maybe we'll start looking for another auction to bid on? We'll see!

OK, OK, WE NOW HAVE A DATE, PLACE AND TIME ... drum roll, please ... EMMA LONG Park, 10:30 a.m., lunch sometime between Noon and 1 p.m. (pot luck! bring your favorite pic-a-nic food, cold drinks, etc. -- some of the Austin Folks will ante up with sausage wraps and burgers and Brady will bring his grill.). We'll start handing out the cans based on the request list right away, so people can begin decorating for the contest. Not sure where we will set up, so plan to follow a trail of purple balloons to the location.

Out-of-towners, Brady and I are willing to go to Emma Long (where camping is first come, first served!) and grab some camping spaces on Friday. Let us know if you want to camp (email moosiegirl!), whether you will be there Friday or Saturday, and whether you want us to grab you a space Friday to insure that you have one on Saturday (oh and whether you want water and electric). There are jillions of motels and hotels in Austin, but nothing really close to the park so I'm leaving that up to anyone who wants a hotel room. If you can get 10 people together, 9key may be able to get you a group rate with his employer.

6-13 UPDATE WITH MORE CAMPING INFO:
Camping and day use info and fees:
$8 per day per car for day use
$6 per site for camping w/o utilities
$15 per site for camping with utilities
You pay camping fee IN ADDITION TO DAY USE FEE (you have to pay both when camping.).

If you want to camp and would like to stay at the lower park Friday or Sat. night (June 20th or 21st), email Candy. Based on the response, I will do my darnedest to get up to 4 campsites Friday morning, but I will have to borrow some tents in order to "occupy" them. I can't just pay and let them sit empty. Each campsite can hold up to 8 people so that's enough room for 32. Austin locals, let me know if I can borrow a tent or popup shelter, or if you might be able to help Friday morning.

If you have an RV and want power and water, I'm not certain what I can get for you. That area of the park is usually full nearly all summer long, even weekdays. If you let me know you want a spot, I'll do my best; but you may just have to park and do without utilities!

Map and pictures of the park are available HERE
Directions to the park from out of town are HERE
Austin locals, they charge a day use fee of $8 per car on the weekends; you may wish to buddy up with your geo-friends and carpool in to the paid day use area. I leave that up to you to arrange! Parking Area from which to carpool is at: N30 20.019 W97 50.404

Now, you are still welcome to come celebrate even if you don't sign my cast, and even if you didn't request any ammo cans. Please email me if you have any questions or need more info.

Happy Trails!
Candy
