Geocache Description:

2-part cache in Heyerdahl Hill, Staten Island Greenbelt. Expect solid tree cover, mosquitos, & perhaps mud.

In the early 1800s, a Mr. Heyerdahl built a stone house atop a 241-foot hill overlooking a remote valley in Buck's Hollow. His hopes to establish orchards and vineyards were greatly challenged by rocky, shallow soil. The remains of his abandoned house are the site of interest for this cache. You may wonder if you are still in NYC during this excursion, as this is one of the wildest places in the city.

Several parking options, none obvious, here is one: N 40'34.881 W 74'07.830.

You may reach the ruins via unmarked paths off the main trails. This SI Greenbelt Trail Map will help. The coords listed take you to the ruins. The ruins somehow contain the coords (degree values remain same) to the actual cache, a smallish plastic jar. Have fun, the caches are very well-disguised.
