This is on the Blue Blazed Trail in Paugusset State Forest and requires some hiking. The cache is hidden in a small rocky gorge with boulders on both sides. It is within 50 ft of the trail but some scrambling is required. The hint should make this trivial but it's not exactly difficult without.
Trolls -
In prehistoric times, Trolls lived all over Pangea well into the Late Jurassic period, when the European and North American land masses slowly began to separate.
Trolls enjoyed fishing and swimming but being large, hairy and clumsy they were lousy sailors and as the continents drifted apart, visits to friends and relatives on the other shore became less and less frequent. Finally they decided they couldn't stand those folks anyway and moved into solitude in the mountains. Since Trolls are stubborn, conservative and despise change there has not been a substantial difference in the development between the American and European Trolls.
As such, it comes as no surprise that Trolls are a frequent sight in New England and further North into Canada. This is ideal for the avid Geocacher as there are plenty of Troll stashes and treasures to be found.
One of these sites is marked here. The terrain is perfect for Trolls as the small rocky gorge makes for great hiding places to throw stones at or ambush unsuspecting travelers. So be careful !!
You have two options to get there:
1. Drive the car to the parking at the end of Echo Valley Road, which is rough and wobbly so leave your Ferrari at home. The blue trail starts right there in the corner and comes past the cache after around 0.7 mi.
2. Park at the Pond Brook Boat Launch along Hannover Rd. The entry to the trail is a bit south on Hannover Rd. The hike is longer from this direction but your car will thank you.
You will come through a small rocky canyon. The cache is hidden on the southern side. You'll have to do a tiny bit of scrambling to get to it. Treasures are stored in a small 6x4" plastic food container.
